One of the aims of the Friends of Stansfeld is that the local schools continue to have access to the Stansfeld Outdoor Education Centre and to use it as a forest school. Read about the benefits experienced by Headington Quarry Foundation Stage School.
A team within the group is working with local schools to represent their voice as the discussion about Stansfeld’s future continues.
More information about forest schools is available on the Forest School Association website.
Schools are welcome to join the Friends of Stansfeld. If you would like to join, would like more information about our work, or would like to speak to a member of the schools team, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Forest Schools are a unique way of building independence and self-esteem in young children. Children attend Forest School sessions throughout the year and although this is not a specific environmental education programme, they will experience all weathers and seasons and develop a deeper understanding about the natural world along the way. The added family benefit is the ‘ripple effect’ where children talk about their experiences at home which then encourages families to visit local woods and become more aware of their immediate environment.
